New USA Hockey Rules
Posted: 6/12/11
The 2011 USA Hockey Annual Congress was held recently, and several rules
were adopted that will affect play in 2011-2012.
Body Checking - Body checking is now prohibited in Pee Wee age groups
and younger. Which means Bantam (14-U) is now the youngest division that includes
checking. This applies to all levels up to Tier I.
Tag-up Off Side - The immediate off side rule will only apply to
12-U and younger in both girls' and boys' youth hockey. So boys' Bantam (14-U)
and Girls' 14-U, and older, will now apply the off side rule (tag up)
as it exists in the NHL and the rest of the known hockey universe. 12-U and
below will continue to use the immediate off side rule.
